We often think of evil as an abstract concept, but for many, evil has a name, a face and believe it or not, a soul. It's as real as you and I, as human as you and I.
"The Stoning of Soraya M" is a story that shouldn't have to be told, and yet it's not an uncommon one. An innocent woman, mother, wife and daughter is half buried in the ground, unable to move, whilst angry men pelt her with stone after stone until she is just a bloodied heap. Her own father casts the first stone. Her two sons join in. And throughout this horror show, a holy man stands by and praises such behaviour, condones it in the name of God.
Again, I come back to that saying, "All that it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing." Why is there so much evil alive and well in this world? Where are all the good men?
This is a new year, a new decade, a chance to do all those good things that we always threaten to do at some point. Let's make it count. Let's make our voices heard and drown out the sounds of evil. Let's leave a legacy worth leaving.
I'd like to make this a space to share ideas about what we can realistically do to impact our world. I know that life is crazy enough without trying to figure out how to fit this in too! But when I tell you that the reward and fulfillment reaching out brings is a high like no other, I speak from experience. What can YOU do to stem the tide of injustice and make our world a better home for everyone?
